Tony Award winner Mark Rylance stars in two startlingly different performances in repertory: as the suddenly love struck noblewoman Olivia in Twelfth Night and as the ruthless and conniving title monarch in Richard III. The plays are presented with an all-male company playing both male and female roles, as the plays were originally staged in Shakespeare’s day. Filled with music, played live by musicians on traditional Elizabethan instruments in a gallery above the stage, the productions are lit almost exclusively by the glow of 100 on-stage candles. Richard III is a schemer, a liar, a manipulator and a ruthless murderer, yet his winter of discontent is indeed made glorious for the audience by this son of York. Monstrous he may be, but Richard's charm is nearly irresistible. One of Shakespeare's most gripping tragic histories.Average Rating: This show is not yet rated
