This was a very traditional broadway musical. I hated it. There was singing, dancing, and even a weak love story.
The music selection was very old fashioned. The characters broke out into random song at strange moments. A couple times during the play, I thought the story was getting interesting, and then all of a sudden the cast ruined any mood by breaking into song and dancing all around the stage.
Although I didn't like most of the music, I was surprised that I recognized a few of the songs.
Its a vintage broadway play. The purists will love it. The younger crowd won't understand it because its dated, very dated.
The singing & dancing were great. In my opinion the characters were too extreme, almost a caricature, but so was the story line.
As a revival it was missing something.
I enjoyed it because I love musicals and tap and hum my way through them. However, I can't give it more than a 3.
Ah, in the tradition of 1940's movies....the original, non-offensive, pure entertainment play. Guys and Dolls will offend no one, and if you just want to while away a few hours and come out humming, this is your pick. I loved the traditional "glitzy" sets and costumes. It's true, this is not for someone who wants to think deep, but, it is happy, colorful and eye candy. Worked for me!
Lauren Graham was adorable and much better than I expected. I found the story, set, music, and dancing to be very enjoyable. I thought Oliver Platt seemed uncomfortable in this role, or perhaps on stage in general.
