Not a bad show, but I didn't think the songs were all that memorable. The dancing was pretty good, but the story was pretty simple. I didn't see the movie, so I don't know how it compares.

I hate to say it but I liked the movie much more than the show. The film accentuates Billy's poverty and underdog status which causes one to root for the kid. The show just didn't convey that same feeling. Perhaps I saw the wrong Billy since the role is shared by 3 different young actors. Overall, the show can be recommended on its own merits.

I was a little disappointed with Billy Elliot. I was expecting a lot more based on all the reviews and awards it has received. I thought it was a pretty typical musical. It was a good show, but it wasn't extra special. The musical was based on the movie, but developed the coal miner strike story a bit more. The dancing was fun to watch, and there were a few fun visual effects in the show. The music was not very catchy and too loud at some parts. Overall, it was a fun and light-hearted show with a bit of history, music, and dancing.

Best play I've seen since Evita in the 1980's. I saw the movie and liked it, but the play was spectacular! Each scene was a surprise - and a brilliant one at that. Clever and unexpected. The music by Elton John - well, it's music by Elton John. What can you say?? The play is much more political than the movie. But this is a good thing. It helps you understand the political tensions of the time and provides a grounding backdrop to the more timeless version of underdog-does-well. If you only see one play on Broadway, make it this one!

Must have had a bad day because I just did not see this show as the great hit that many insist it is. Part of the problem is that I had recently rewatched the movie in preparation for the musical (I give the movie 5 stars). I was moved by the movie, but the musical left me cold. I found the banging of the shields annoying, and the Margaret Thatcher puppet to be totally out of place. So much could be done with this show if it focused on the story of Billy Elliot and not the grandeur of a BIG BROADWAY show.

Complete trash!! Paint by numbers show with stereotypical characters, one joke (roasting the ballet)and to add insult to injury DEAFENING LOUD Sound Effects & so called music!!! Beware if you care to protect your ears from damage!!!!! Complained to house re: noise level---they said producers insisted on high volume despite numerous complaints! Unfortunately numerous shows now subscribe to this pathetic device to create drama--- The night we saw show there were about 10-12 covers performing--even the performers want OUT of this one!! DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!
