REVIEWS
Avenue Q was fantastic. It is definitely not a traditional musical. Even if you don't ordinarily like musicals, you might love Avenue Q.
The music was great, the story was great, and even the way they combined real actors and puppets was great. This is the best Broadway show I've seen so far.
The main story is about Princeton - a young monster who graduates from college and moves to Avenue Q in New York City. Princeton has big dreams after college, but experiences difficulties when trying to make something of himself.
Avenue Q is probably best understood by people who have recently graduated from college, but from what I've seen, it is also universally appreciated by all adults.
There is lots of profanity in the show - it's not appropriate for children.
The first Broadway show that I saw when I moved to NY and to this day nothing beats it! It's basically Sesame Street for adults but it's got clever and offensive jokes left and right, an engaging plot, a great message, songs that you'll be humming long afterward, and loads of originality. If you've just left college or are still lost in the wilderness of a big city then this musical is especially for you. Still the best!
Outstanding! There is some mature content that would make it unsuitable for children, but, otherwise, can't imagine not LOVING this play! The puppeteers are so talented you more or less forget the puppets aren't real...the humor is excellent, the tunes extremely catchy. An uplifting message, and, I left the theater feeling happier than when I went in. If you don't see it, I think you are doing yourself a great disservice. Entertainment at its best.
I loved Avenue Q! I was really impressed with how well the people interacted with their puppets. I found myself transposing facial expressions from the puppeteer onto the puppet.
The story was not profound, but I loved the humor and the songs. I've seen this show twice already and I can see myself going again. I wouldn't recommend it for young children. I'd says it's targeted more to a fresh-out-of-college age group. Being at that stage in my life, I could really relate to the characters.
This is just a fun, creative show. Keep in mind it won best new musical over Wicked. I laughed and laughed on Browdway and my guess is the off-Broadway contnuation is just as good.
Bouncy music, catchy lines that I'm still using 3 months after the play.
But puppets as the main characters???? The cast did a great job but sorry, I couldn't get into this one.
Seen this show twice in 5 years. It's a great show to take a guy to if they are unsure about Broadway. It's was my boyfriend's first show and he LOVED it. It's light-hearted, uplifting, and hilarious.
One of the best musicals I have ever seen! The songs are clever and funny. The story is very engaging and interesting. I would recommend this show to anybody.
It's South Park meets Broadway!
I know this an incredibly popular musical, and I enjoy it, I do. But I think that when you strip away the puppets (and I'm a puppeteer, I appreciate that they're there), you're left with a bunch of cynicism and not much else. I like cynicism. But we have an overload of it these days and sometimes Avenue Q feels like just a little much. A lot of talent went into the development of this show, and I hope to see more from all of the creators.
